What is Golfers Elbow?

Golfers Elbow is a condition that causes pain and inflammation on the inside of the elbow, where the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the bony prominence on the inside of the elbow.

Though commonly associated with golfers, it can occur in anyone who performs repetitive wrist and arm motions

Symptoms

  • Pain or tenderness on the inside of the elbow, which may radiate down the forearm.
  • Stiffness in the elbow joint.
  • Weakness in the hands and wrists.
  • Pain worsens with activities that require gripping, lifting, or throwing.

Treatment for Golfers Elbow

Physiotherapy can be beneficial in the management of golfers elbow and can help:

  • Relieve Pain
  • Promote Healing
  • Restore Function

Of course, everyone is different and therefore every course of treatment is different, but our treatments can include:

  • Hands-on techniques like joint mobilization or soft tissue massage to improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate pain in the affected area.
  • Stretching the muscles and tendons around the elbow helps relieve tightness and increase flexibility. The therapist will guide you through stretches targeting the forearm flexors and other surrounding muscles to reduce strain on the tendons and improve range of motion in the elbow.
  • Strengthening exercises are essential to improve muscle function, support the tendons, and prevent further injury
  • Shockwave Therapy which is a form of electrotherapy and can be very effective for Golfers Elbow. To read more about Shockwave Therapy please click here.

A full assessment will be carried out by one of our specialist team and the most appropriate course of treatment will be discussed at your appointment.
